Wheelchair Sports Program
This term in Week 9, St Joseph’s school participated in a Wheelchair Sports Program run by David Johnson from Social Futures.
This was a great opportunity for all of us to experience what it would be like to be a disabled Wheelchair athlete. Students got to play disabled wheelchair basketball. We did this by doing 2 pushes of the wheelchair, then 2 bounces of the ball. Students learned how hard it would be like to be in a wheelchair.
DJ (David Johnson) taught us some important things:
1) Never judge anyone for what they look like on the outside; what matters is how they are on the inside.
2) Always greet people by their name before asking about their disability.
3) Never assume that disabled people have a bad life.
It was a really fun event at our school and everyone enjoyed it.
Thank you Social Futures for visiting us.
