PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

At our recent School Review, the review panel interviewed all staff and a selection of students and parents to place the school in each of the nine domains of the National School Improvement Tool (NSIT). In each domain the school was ranked as low, medium, high or outstanding.

As Outstanding equates to the perfect school we were thrilled with our final report placing the school in the predominately high range across all domains.

The comments and recommendations were extremely positive and give the school a way forward to continue to grow and improve.

A hard copy of the final report is available for your perusal at the front office.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in what has proven to be an extremely positive school review.

ART SHOW WINNERS

Congratulations to our annual Art Show winners who were presented with their trophies at this week's school assembly. Lily Moyce from 4H was awarded the most popular artwork as voted by the children for her Dragon Eye.  Thank you to Office National for donating the extra special art prize for this award.

KINDERGARTEN LITURGY

Last Wednesday Kindergarten welcomed parents and children from St James to share in a morning tea and very special liturgy. Our liturgy was focused on friendship and the friendship Jesus wants us to share with one another. We were also treated to a yummy ice-block from our school, to enjoy with our newly made friends from St James. We look forward to continuing these special friendships as we grow through our schooling years.

PBS REWARDS DAY

As part of our positive behaviour plan each term the children are rewarded with a gotcha when they are seen doing good things on the playgroaund or in the classroom based on the focus for the fortnight. These gotchas go into their house container whereby Year 6 leaders tally the results for the week. Reynolds House (Red) collected the most amount of 'Gotchas' on the playground for positive behaviour and was rewarded with an extra special fun afternoon. Last week children in Reynolds House, walked to the beach to participate in sand modelling activities as part of their reward day. They had an amazing day and thoroughly enjoyed their rewards.

POLICE VISIT

Two police officers visited our school this week to talk to the children about abuse on social media. The officers pointed out to the 90% of children who put their hand up when asked if they were on Facebook, snapchat, Tic Tok, Instagram etc that they are breaking the law as it is illegal to be on these sites if you are under 13. The amount of material that your children are viewing and commenting on is not appropriate, so I encourage you greatly, for the safety of your children, keep them off sites such as these, especially Tic Tok as it is a site that is not appropriate for children.  Viewing sites like these build images in children's minds  and expose them to things that we are parents, do not want them to emulate.  Be very proactive in making sure you know what your children are viewing and that your child does not have their phones or Ipads in their bedrooms or bathrooms.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION DINNER

The Year 6 Graduation Dinner will be held on Tuesday the 29th of November at 6PM NSW time.

Well done to all competitors on their great performances on the track and field against some very tough competition.

Boys are to wear their St Joseph's football jersey, football shorts, football socks and school sport joggers to school. They bring their football boots in their bag to change into. A mouthguard is necessary. Please make sure children have plenty of water, munch and crunch and their lunch. The bus will leave at 8:50am and return by 2:20pm.

Netball Finals

Our senior netball team will travel to Grafton next Wednesday (21st September) to compete in the Lismore Diocesan Finals. The team will play the winners from the three other zones, competing for the Diocesan trophy. We wish them good luck.

SHOW US YOUR COLOURS DAY FUNDRAISER

Thank you everyone for giving a gold coin donation for “Assist a student”, it means a lot. For every $70 we raised, $70 was given to a child in need, providing a year of education for them including stationary, books, and school fees. The school raised $421.95 which we gave to the St. Vincent De Paul Society who will choose a country in need to help. Thank You everyone who participated in wearing your very bright colours and bringing a gold coin donation, you all looked spectacular!

BOYS AND SCREENS

In the past ten years, screens have completely upended the way we raise our children. Screens are everywhere. All the time. Social media has taken over our lives and the lives of our kids. 97% of kids are gaming. And the Internet has brought new kinds of risks into our children's lives at earlier and earlier ages.

Screens affect our boys and our girls differently. Boys are caught up in the gaming industry with hundreds of billions of dollars each year. It keeps them up at night. It creates contention in our home as sleeplessness combines with dishonesty, aggression, competitiveness, and the never-ending desire for "one more game".

Boys' online lives are complicated even more by the growth in gambling among tween and teen boys, and the continued rise of pornography. Boys' access to explicit content has never been easier or more common.

What can we do to help our boys manage their screen time, and manage the content they're exposed to, in safe, healthy ways?  Register Here:
