WINTER SPORT TRIALS

The Diocesan Winter Sports Trials in Grafton finally went ahead this week after several postponements due to rain and floods. St Joseph's was represented by 11 very talented students in a number of different sports.
Netball: Rubi Nasorowale, Ruby Everingham, and Kalani Blanch showed some great netball skills against some very talented and tall opponents in Grafton. Unfortunately, the Tweed Zone Netball team was without its two main goal shooters, Keira Everingham and Sienna Gazal who were unable to attend due to COVID restrictions. Congratulations to Rubi, Kalani, and Ruby who not only showed great skill but also great resilience and strength of character as they not only played without their two shooters but also had to cope without their coach who was also prevented from attending due to COVID restrictions. Well done girls on a great effort.
11 Years Rugby League: Blake Millar, Kalan Noakes, Max Godfrey, Jack McCoy, and Ryley Taylor made up the Tweed Zone Rugby League Team. The boys were undefeated in Grafton, showing exceptional football skills along with great sportsmanship on the field. Blake, Ryley, and Max progressed through to the Possibles and Probables, with Blake going on to gain selection in the Lismore Diocesan team. Blake will now travel to Bathurst next term to compete at the Polding Trials. Well done to all boys on a great effort and best of luck to Blake at the Polding Trials.
Soccer: Ocean Wilkes is competing at the soccer trials in Grafton today, good luck Ocean.

ST JOSEPH'S DAY CELEBRATIONS

As a school, we celebrated St Joseph's Day on Friday 19th March. This is the year of St Joseph and we are proud as a school and a parish to try to emulate the great qualities of loyalty and generosity that St Joseph is known for. Our day began with a liturgy asking for St Joseph to help us in our quest to be the best people we can be, then followed our famous St Joseph Day games. Thank you to Year 6 who led these activities and made the day extra special for all of us.

Happy St Joseph's Day.

MATHS ENRICHMENT

At St Joseph's we have a culture of learning for continual growth. We aim to cater for the diverse educational needs of ALL students so that they can achieve their full educational potential. Yesterday afternoon, Mrs Thompson, a maths teacher from St Joseph's College, visited our school and ran a maths enrichment session for some of our Stage 3 high potential students. The session was an introduction to algebra- the students loved it and all were very engaged!

YEAR 2 CLASS MASS

Last Tuesday Year 2 celebrated Mass with Father Wilbur. The focus was on Following Jesus through Lent. The children listened to Scripture about Jesus being tempted in the desert and prayed for Jesus' guidance to help them be the best version of themselves during Lent. The children asked Father Wilbur questions about his Vestments and his favourite food. The students enjoyed the intimate gathering in the classroom and brainstormed some wonderful ideas for almsgiving, fasting, and prayer during Lent.

POLDING SWIMMING

Willow Millar in Year 2 recently competed at the NSW Polding Catholic Swimming Championships held at the Sydney Aquatic Centre. Willow swam in the 8-year-old girl's 50m Freestyle event where she placed a very competitive 8th out of 18 competitors. This was a fantastic result and a huge achievement for Willow to have the opportunity to compete at such a high level. Well done Willow, everyone at St Joseph's is very proud of you.

O'DWYER CUP

Our Junior and Senior Rugby League teams recently played against St James to contest the O'Dwyer Shield. This is an annual event between the two schools in honor of former student Ryan O'Dwyer. Both teams played skillful games of football and showed great team spirit and sportsmanship both on and off the field. Our Junior team drew 2 all and our Senior team came away with a convincing win 24-6. A big thank you to Daniel Taylor and Matt Curtis for training the boys in the lead-up to the game and for running the teams on the day.

Mini Vinnies empowers primary school students to become advocates within their school and local community by reflecting on the needs of others and developing their empathy and compassion.
Our school's Mini Vinnies team meets every fortnight to discuss and raise awareness of social justice issues and organise fundraisers to help others in need within our local and global community.
Today our Mini Vinnies team received their badges when they made a pledge at the special commissioning ceremony at school.
Congratulations to our Mini Vinnies team.
